Avon is located 17 miles South of Boston and is conveniently located off of route 24. Avon is a very small town comprised of approximately 4.57 square miles with a population of roughly 4,558. Residents of Avon have a mixture of both white and blue collar jobs and roughly 21% of Avon residents over the age of 25 have a four year college degree. Expect to find mostly suburban neighborhoods throughout Avon with a large industrial focus surrounding route 24. Avon’s crime rate is higher than its neighboring towns and the schools fall below the average in our star ranking system. Don’t expect to find a jumping nightlife, Avon scores low in this category and other than a few local restaurants many residents looking for late night fun travel to Boston and the various shopping plazas along Route 24 and 93 that contain chain restaurants, movie theaters, malls and stores. If you like to shop you will find most people traveling to Braintree to the South Shore Shopping plaza that contains many brand named stores and retail department stores. One thing to note about Avon is the Avon Industrial Park, home to over 126 firms that employ roughly 3600 people. One downside to Avon is if you will be commuting to Boston peak driving times can run you upwards of an hour and a half. Avon also doesn’t have in town commuter rail service, however, it can be found in the next town over at the Montello station, expect about a half hour train ride into the city.See Less
